In what seems like another time and place, my former producership at 7 Days A Geek, had me coming up with an idea to fill time with the two hosts at that time, The Angry Ginger and The Kilted One.
So, I compiled a list of 50 questions, to get two episodes out of asking them each the same lot of questions separately. And it went well… So well in fact, that I was able to ask Bill of The Wicked Theory Podcast the very same questions.
Not long ago, while making an attempt to zero out my inbox, I came across an email from a listener and friend, who had asked me to answer these questions myself. Apparently, I completely forgot about that email, until I rediscovered it. So, for the fun of it, for that person, and for you dear reader, I will answer those 50 Questions.
And away we go!
Coke or Pepsi? Coke
Read on a Kindle or paperback book? Book
Go to a play or musical? Play
Hike or Bike? Bike
Star Wars or Star Trek? Star Wars
Where is your favorite place to eat? A diner, I love diners. And not a hipster diner, but just an old diner, with the retro feel that is only there because they haven’t replaced a thing and the style has become retro. And while it’s more of an east coast thing, preferably one with a section of it made from an old train car.
What childhood activity do you wish you could still do now? Freeze tag. At this point, everyone I know is too old, but it would be great to go back to when a simple game like that was the most fun you could have on a warm afternoon.
What TV show character are you most like? Josh Lyman from The West Wing.
Would You Rather Be A Jack Of Many Trades Or A Master Of One? I already am a “Palmer of many trades,” but I’d rather add more to the trades than to be a master of just one.
What’s the funniest movie moment you’ve ever seen? I have to go back to The Marx Brothers in Animal Crackers with Harpo stealing the cutlery… With the cop saying “Well, you certainly surprised me!” and Groucho replying “Me too, I thought he had more than that…”
Play dodgeball or kickball? Dodgeball
Swim in a pool or the ocean? Ocean
Would you rather act or direct? Direct
Win the lottery or find your perfect job? Lottery
Watch sports or play sports? Play
Who would you want with you if you were stranded on a deserted island? My closest friends, of course. Since there aren’t many of them, I believe that we’d make the best of that kind of “Permanent Vacation.”
What junk food couldn’t you live without? Peanut Butter M&Ms. I don’t do candy very often, but when I do, it’s these little devils. And yes, for some reason I prefer them to Reese’s Pieces, though they will do in a pinch.
What’s your least favourite food? Asparagus, not a fan.
Which real planet would you visit? Venus, because I get the feeling Mars is going to be pretty crowded soon.
Which childhood movie do you still love today? Wizards. While Ralph Bakshi’s classic isn’t a “kids” movie, I saw it as a kid and I still love it to this day.
R2-D2 or BB-8? R2-D2
Watch TV or read a book? Read a book
Laptop or Tablet? Laptop
Camp in an RV or stay in a tent? RV
Use Facebook or Twitter? Twitter
If you could do anything you wanted right now, what would it be? Snap my fingers and have my house organized… While it’s not chaos and it’s not dirty, the organization could probably be much better… I’m working on it, but if I could snap my fingers and make that happen, I would do it right now.
What animal do you most want to have as a pet? Unrealistically, I would say velociraptor, but realistically I would probably say cat.
Where do you most want to travel, but have never been? I would most want to travel across the country in a car. While I’ve traveled around the country, I’ve never traversed the continent by car, and that road trip has always been on my bucket list.
Who is your favorite author? It could be Clive Barker or Len Deighton and there was a time in my youth when it could have been Arthur C. Clark or Isaac Asimov, but if pressed for one singular answer, I would have to go with Chuck Klosterman though Douglas Coupland is giving him a run for his money. Consistently, through his books and articles, the man’s wit is second to none.
What is your favorite book? That’s impossible to answer, but if I limit myself to recently read books, I would have to say Douglas Coupland’s Microserfs.
Armageddon or Deep Impact? Armageddon
Own a houseboat or a speed boat? Houseboat
Go climbing or zip lining? Zip lining
Coffee or tea? Coffee
Have a night out or evening in? Evening in
What was your favorite activity in gym class? Basketball or baseball. I was in some organized youth leagues, but outside of that, gym class was the only time there were enough players around to actually organize a game. For me it wasn’t something so easy to organize outside of school. Especially baseball, trying to get 18 kids together, or even 10 for a full game of pickup basketball was quite the task.
Who is your favorite Disney villain? Maleficent from Sleeping Beauty.
What was the first concert you ever saw? Aerosmith on the Nine Lives Tour… In fact, I spoke at length about this on Episode 28 of Our Liner Notes “Agent Palmer Goes to the Show!”
What does your perfect day look like? Get up at dawn. Have some coffee, listen to some music, read, more coffee, read some more, do some writing, read, and then just chill with friends or keep reading, perhaps a break somewhere for a movie, but that’s about it.
What is the one thing that should be taught in school that isn’t already? The love of reading. While they do teach you to read at a young age, and then force you to read later on, they don’t do much for cultivating a love of reading that will pay dividends later in life. In fact, I had to cultivate my own love of reading well after I left college.
Marvel or DC? Marvel
Crash with friends or stay in a hotel? Crash with friends
Visit Europe or Mexico? Europe
Travel by plane, train, or automobile? Automobile
Produce a blockbuster movie or hit television show? Blockbuster movie.
What Would You Do FIRST If You Were The President Of Your Own Country? Grant citizenship to my closest friends. Cheesy, but true…
What is your biggest success up until now? Probably the creation, cultivation, and continuation of Agent Palmer as a blog and brand, that has expanded from the written word into the world of podcasting. Who knows what’ll be next, but so far, I’ve grown beyond my original expectations.
On a scale of 1-10 how funny would you say you are? Six, but I’m probably a 9 when I’m the punchline around certain individuals.
If you had a warning label, what would yours say? WARNING: DO NOT ENGAGE UNLESS COFFEE HAS BEEN ADEQUATELY CONSUMED.
What is one question you want to ask me right now? This was originally a podcast format, as I stated before I started these questions… So, I’ll just ask you, dear reader, have you learned anything?
