A Special Holiday Report from Agent Hunt
There are few stories more synonymous with Christmas than Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol. I’ve never read it myself, but I’ve seen The Muppet Christmas Carol many times, so I get the gist. This year Lego chose to immortalise Dickens’ book in plastic bricks with a buildable scene from the book and a couple of minifigures.
What do you get? The set contains 333 pieces, and minifigures of Tiny Tim, Bob Cratchit, and Scrooge. The set also includes 15 stickers. The base of the vignette is the book itself and features a mix of curved and flat tiles to give the impression of a spine, there’s also a secret (if undersized) drawer built into the base. The other three sides use ridged bricks to give the look of pages, which is pretty cool.
The real joy from this set comes from the build of Bob Cratchit’s house. The floor is tiled with some stickers to indicate the worn floorboards, but Lego added a couple of jumper plates so you can add the minifigures without them falling off. There’s exposed brickwork, a scrawny Christmas tree, and a pitiful fireplace (in keeping with the theme).
A lot of detail has been saved for the snow-covered exterior, meaning this set looks good from every angle. All of the minifigures look good and use a mix of exclusive and rare parts.
Is it a good set? As a gift? Yes. It’s unique and looks good on the shelf. If it were a set that was available for regular purchase then I’d there are some things I’d do differently, and I may still modify it when I get a chance, but for now, I’m happy enough. Hopefully, we’ll see more sets like this in the future.
