I am always amazed at the talent found on DeviantArt. The brushstrokes, a correctly placed pixel, the click of a camera at the right moment, the correct light, cartoon irony, serenity and humor. It’s all in my feed thanks, in no small part, to the talented artists and photographers that make up my watch-list.
It is December, and as such, I thought it would be completely relevant to include something from the planet Hoth. Here in the Northern Hemisphere, December means cold temperatures, and sometimes, when I think cold, I think of Hoth.
While searching, I came across this gem, titled “Hoth cold” and drawn by Hexjohn, from Clerks: The Animated Series, specifically based upon the episode where our heroes get locked in the freezer. As an aside, I enjoyed Clerks: The Animated Series, but it was short lived, in part because it didn’t belong as a Saturday morning cartoon. It really belong on Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim, which didn’t launch until the year after Clerks: The Animated Series was cancelled.
“The Tale of Three Trees” by 08–n7R6-7984 is an animated GIF for his game Journey to Hammerdale. I haven’t played the game, not sure if I ever will, put these trees captivated me for some reason. I’m not entirely sure why, but I do enjoy pixelated graphics. I’m not a purest, by any stretch when it comes to video games, I have enjoyed watching the graphics develop from humble squares to polygons and now to almost lifelike figures, but I still hold pixelated graphics in high regard and these three trees are something else.
Four completely different pieces, all unique in scope and style. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, DeviantArt‘s users have a lot of talent, you just have to look for it. And you really don’t have to look all that hard.
