Rock & Rule: The Cult Classic That Never Really Was

Rock & Rule Movie

There was a time, not that long ago, where aiming an animated movie at an older audience was quite the gamble. This time also overlaps with the period where Disney was still the king of animation for feature length cartoons and everyone else was lucky to even be mentioned…

Not everything is destined to be a hit or even lucky enough to get “cult classic” status. Ralph Bakshi, who I’ve written a lot about, has made a career of smaller independent cartoons targeted at older audiences that all have gained cult status.

Antitrust still presents Argument that is Anything but Binary

Antitrust still presents Argument that is Anything but Binary

There is something equally timeless and out of date about the 2001 film “Antitrust.” Despite this or because of it, the thriller is still interesting to watch and enjoy.

An Honest Review of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story

Rogue One A Star Wars Story

I saw Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and I wasn’t that impressed. Some people are telling me that it means I’m not a “hardcore” Star Wars fan, but I’m more inclined to think it just means, I won’t be taken with a movie simply because you slap “Star Wars” in the title.

Thanks to Barry Levinson, We’ll Always Have ‘Diner’

Barry Levinson's Diner 1982

What makes for a better movie experience than relatable characters and their relationships? To that effect, what makes a better movie than Barry Levinson’s Diner, where there’s a way to find a portion of yourself in each character on the screen.

One other thing that you have in common with the main characters, or should have in common with the boys – Eddie, Shrevie, Boogie, Fenwick, Billy, and Modell – is that they are all kids at heart.

Ralph Bakshi: A Rotospective

Last Days of Coney Island Ralph Bakshi

Rotospective: Bakshi Returns to Form with “Last Days of Coney Island.”

There was a period of time from the mid-nineties through 2013, where Ralph Bakshi had completely given up on making movies. He did some television and a few shorts here and there, but the big studio experience of Cool World, had really soured him on film of any length, type or story.

That is until the announcement of a Kickstart on February 1st, 2013 to fund “Last Days of Coney Island…”
